About ShiZhen TCM

The name ShiZhen may be unfamiliar to many, but to anyone familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine the name is well known. For ShiZhen was a very remarkable person. Dr ShiZhen Li lived long ago in the Ming dynasty. He was born into a medical family in 1518 and died in 1593. He went into the mountains to collect herbs and to learn from farmers. He spent over 30 years writing and eventually he completed the book ´Ben Cao Gang Mu´. It has 190, 000 words, which recorded 1892 herbs, over 10,000 prescriptions and over 1,000 detailed drawings in 52 volumes. At the time his work greatly enriched the scope of herbal treatments, and it influenced the worlds medical science and plant botany. His work has been developed and the modern Materia Medica documents over six thousand substances. Dr ShiZhen Li lived to 75 years, a very advanced age at the time. In Chinese thinking any year after the age of 70 is considered a precious year. The name ShiZhen has come to mean ´precious time´ or ´precious life´.

ShiZhen TCM UK Ltd has production lines in Mainland of China and Taiwan and is able to ensure the high quality of our herbs, because we are directly involved in their manufacture. We are sole agents for the highly reputable Koda Pharmaceuticals in Taiwan, who make up preparations to our own specifications as well as traditional formulas. In China we have a production line within a long established company TaiBao Pharmaceutical, formally Lanzhou MinShan Pharmaceutical. Both firms are GMP certified and we have recently formed a joint manufacturing company ShiZhen TCM (China) Ltd with Jiangsu TianHe Pharmaceutical Ltd.

All our herbs are prepared using traditional processes and are not subjected to common cosmetic processes such as sulphur treatment. We operate a comprehensive service for the 21st century that is rooted in tradition, and tailor made to fit our customer´s diverse needs, such as our popular same day prescription service.
